What goes up must come down and all good things must come to an end (not really just goin with the phrase). I finally remember I was downloading stuff on Limewire last night so I sign on to let it finish and TADA this notice pops up right before it shuts limewire down. I cant even right a full blog because of the sadness in my heart.... haha farewell oh great limewire.
Judge Kimba Wood’s May 12th temporary court injunction against LimeWire LLC ’s peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing software has become permanent.
This decision extinguishes the torch that was passed from previous legendary music file-sharing services Grokster and its predecessor, Napster.
The injunction concludes the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) ’s legal action against LimeWire, which began in 2007. RIAA said in a statement: “The court has now signed an injunction that will start to unwind the massive piracy machine that LimeWire and Gorton used to enrich themselves immensely.”
Damages sought against Lime Group and founder Mark Gorton will be decided in a civil trial next January. The class action suit by the copyright holders is estimated at $1 billion.
The RIAA in its lawsuit made some staggering numerical claims:
LimeWire costs the record labels $500 million a month in lost revenues.
More than 3 billion songs a month were swapped.
LimeWire’s software had been downloaded more than 200 million times.
98.8 percent of download requests were for unauthorized files
